With some defensive inattention and again vulnerable at set
pieces, the monarch Real Madrid suffered more than necessary to overcome 2-1
Wednesday Bulgarian Ludogorets and maintain the perfect step after two dates of
the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 24th minute penalty, and he
did head another shot from 12 steps to reach 70 goals in the European Cup, two
less than the record held by Raul. Karim Benzema came off the bench to replace
Mexican Javier Hernandez and scored the winning goal in the 77th.
Marcelinho opened the scoring in the sixth minute by
Bulgarian club, to head home a corner which was combed to the back post by a
partner, in a move that stripped problems defending the Spanish giant.
Ludogorets, played at the National Stadium in Sofia because his court does not
have the minimum capacity required by UEFA, forced goalkeeper Iker Casillas to
make a couple of excellent saves.
